St. Mark Village Residents' Favorite Holiday Traditions

Celebrating favorite holiday traditions with family and friends is just the beginning—residents of St. Mark Village are discovering even more ways to have a very merry holiday season!

Holiday games, sparkling holiday decor, lively carols, delicious dining, and new ideas for making cherished holiday traditions even more meaningful—it’s all here, wrapped up and waiting for you.

Holiday Traditions Cherished by St. Mark Village Residents

The Joy of Carols

Who doesn’t love to hear holiday carols? For many, gathering around a piano or tree to sing or hear holiday songs is a cherished childhood memory and one of their favorite family traditions. However, it’s hard to have that experience when you’re the only one singing.

That’s why the annual Friends and Family Concert performed by the Fun Chorus at St. Mark Village is so popular. Not only can you invite your loved ones to share in the entertainment, but you can also join other residents as part of the Chorus—no experience necessary!

Mary, a St. Mark Village resident, is a big fan and eager to participate in this year’s concert. “I joined the Fun Chorus when I first moved to St. Mark Village almost three years ago. This year’s concert will start with the song, “Breath of Heaven” (Mary’s Song). Other favorites such as “I’ll be Home for Christmas” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside” will be performed. Come visit and feel our Christmas spirit!”

A bonus to the fun: music offers a variety of mental, physical, and emotional benefits. A great example of how St. Mark Village works wellness into every event!

A Feeling of Family

When you think of holiday traditions, it’s only natural to think of good times spent with siblings, parents, children, grandchildren, friends, and neighbors. There’s a warmth that can come from remembering a special moment, a heartfelt gift, or even something as simple as seeing a grandchild’s eyes light up when a plate of cookies appears.

That’s what makes celebrating the season at St. Mark Village such a treat: you’re part of a big, welcoming, caring family. You are surrounded by people who share your history and want you to be part of their happiness as the season approaches. There’s no need to feel lonely when all around you; choices abound. It could be a special holiday brunch. A concert. Holiday films in the theatre just steps away.

That feeling of belonging is key to healthy aging as well. Just listen to St. Mark Village resident Kathy Younker.

“I just love it here!” says Kathy. “It’s such a family feeling at the holidays, when I have no family. I’ve been here 16 years, and St. Mark Village is my family.”

Fellow resident Joan Chambers agrees. “Living at St. Mark Village means not having to spend the holidays alone, not spending your birthday by yourself, not celebrating special occasions without anyone to share them with, and not having not worry about having a new roof put on your house.”

All great reasons for choosing senior living at St. Mark Village, especially if you are a solo ager and would appreciate all the benefits of community living every day of the year.

Holiday Decor Everywhere You Look

The holidays can feel even more magical when you are surrounded by lovely holiday decor: twinkling lights, bright tinsel, beautifully decorated trees and doors, sparkling table settings, and more. As the years go by, however, it can become a lot of work—crawling through an attic or basement and looking for boxes, risking a ladder to hang a decoration, replacing bulbs, and more, not to mention taking it all down later and storing it once again.

Now imagine the joy of walking just a few steps from your lovely apartment at St. Mark Village and seeing stunning holiday decor all around you—and you didn’t have to lift a finger! Instead of worrying over details, you get to just relax and enjoy it all. Your loved ones also will treasure seeing how gorgeous our community becomes. Another item to add to your list of family traditions!

St. Mark Village residents Doug and Susie Brown put it best: “The holidays are like a fantasy world at St. Mark Village. We all sparkle!”

Joyful Gatherings and Delicious Dining Opportunities

Many people say living at St. Mark Village feels like a vacation, or even a resort, because there is so much to do and enjoy and they never feel left out of the fun. And during the holiday season, it’s even more active!

Carols, parties, outings, happy hours, wellness activities, programs, volunteering, and of course, irresistible holiday meals and treats. There’s much to choose from. Holiday concerts that add a special touch to the season. Holiday games for the whole family. Festive meals that bring everyone together. Around every corner, there’s beautiful holiday decor, and, even better, someone with a smile ready to greet and welcome visitors.

For residents Doug and Susie Brown, living at St. Mark Village has meant many wonderful holiday traditions. “For the last 17 years, we have celebrated both Thanksgiving and Christmas with our mother, our brother and our daughter and her family here at St. Mark Village,” say the Browns. “Mom was a resident for 13 years and we have been residents for the past 4 years. We have found that the atmosphere created by the holiday decor and the fantastic food, the carol singing, the friendly employees, and all the extended family, and residents, just makes the climate here so money, we can’t help but feel the excitement and love of Christmas.”
